Guidelines for
handling, installing, and bracing wood trusses
Because
of a number of roof truss collapses in New Brunswick, some of
which have resulted in serious and fatal injuries, WorkSafeNB
has developed a pamphlet to help owners, employers,
contractors and workers safely handle, construct and brace
roof truss systems.
When properly designed, fabricated,
erected and braced, a roof truss system is a strong and
economical way to frame a building roof. However, if the
design instructions are ignored during construction and
bracing, the structure could collapse. Individual trusses may
fail if damaged during transport or construction. The
publication Guidelines
for handling, installing, and bracing wood trusses,
outlines recommended procedures and precautions to ensure your
project runs smoothly and
safely.
Survive the winter
drive
When it comes to
winter, New Brunswickers can challenge the often-cited line,
“Nothing is certain except death and taxes.” That’s because we
can always be certain of at least a couple of bad winter
storms. And since driving can be hazardous enough at the best
of times, drivers need to be extra cautious when tackling
winter roads.
Driving during a winter storm should
always be avoided. But if it is absolutely necessary, then
consider these tips from CAA to keep you and others safe in
treacherous driving conditions. Click here.

Ask
Us
Q:
I
work for a farming company and we have our own transport fleet
of trucks for the animal feed. Is there a law or regulation
that says our truck drivers need to wear visible and
light-deflective clothing when exiting their trucks? Do they
need to wear it each time they get out of their truck or just
on the property of others?
John Smith* ABC Company Limited* Dieppe*, NB
*Name has been changed for
privacy purposes A: The
answer to your question may depend on whether your fleet is
regulated provincially or federally or both; that is, is the
trucking activity done exclusively within New Brunswick,
exclusively outside the province (inter-provincial) or both?
