Phones down, thumbs
up
It’s
a familiar sight. People hunched over, elbows bent in, thumbs
moving a mile a minute on a BlackBerry or other wireless
device. Although this habit may have started with relentless
text messaging among teens, it moved into the workplace when
cellphones evolved into multi-purpose tools. It’s old news
that emails, scheduling, and quick Internet research can all
be performed from small wireless devices, but use of this new
technology increases the time and thumb effort spent on smart
phones at work. As a result, thumb injuries are on the rise.
Business men and women are increasing the hours of corporate
work done through fast, repetitive thumb movements, putting
them at a higher risk of developing a thumb-specific RSI. More
